What is a Segway? How does it work?
The Segway Human Transporter is the first of its kind – a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. Segways are easy to use and operate and usually takes new riders 10 minutes of training to learn. The two-wheeled Segway sports high-tech gyroscopes that monitor your balance 100 times a second and automatically respond to your body’s movements. To move forward, the rider simply leans forward. To stop or move backwards, the rider leans back slightly. The rider glides smoothly as the Segway senses where you want to go. How do I learn to ride a Segway?
All first time customers are required to take a on board training session to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Training time is generally part of the overall tour time. Riders are trained on safe Segway operation and emergency stops. Training includes a 10 minute safety video. Riders are required to wear helmets.
How long, fast and far can I ride?
The Segway has a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour. Some tours operate at slower more pedestrian friendly speeds. with Lion (Lithium Ion) batteries a rider can average about 24 miles between battery charges. A fully charged Lion ( Lithium Ion) battery will last with constant riding for approximately 6 hours.
Riding times vary with hills, rider weight and speed. Segway has key settings that limit the top speed. Most tours will start at a lower training / turtle speed setting. Each tour location determines the appropriate top speed for its local route and conditions. With many routes through crowded streets and city centers speed is reduced for a relaxed cruise and safety.
Are advance reservations required? How far in advance do I need to reserve?
You can guarantee your ride time if you call ahead to schedule your Seg Adventure. Call: (734) 414-0456. Feel free to drop in the Green Store anytime and take a ride if they are not currently being used.
What should I wear?
Seg Adventures recommends: Comfortable shoes – no high heels. You will be standing and want to wear comfortable footwear. Feel free to bring a bag for your camera, wallet and water. Backpacks and messenger bags work great.
Who can ride a Segway? Are Segways safe for children or people with disabilities? What about pregnant women?
Riding a Segway is similar to riding a bike – it’s intuitive but nobody is born knowing how to operate it. All tours offer training so you can get familiar with the device. A Segway is not an ideal mode of touring for people with some mobility or BALANCE issues.
All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without any assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail.
Segway riding is not recommended for pregnant women. Unfortunately, pregnant women will not be permitted to participate in these tours.
Safety is very important to us: All guests must be age 12 or older and weight at least 100 lbs. (46 kilos). You will practice on the Segways until you feel comfortable and are ready to tour.
The Segway Tours have only a few restrictions. Riders must:
- Age 12-15 must ride with a parent or guardian. Age 12 is the youngest rider we accept.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
- Weigh at least 100 lbs and not exceed 270. For guest safety minimum age and weight requirements are strictly enforced.
- Be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without any assistance or use of a handrail.
- Be able to stand on the Segway for a period of 1 hour.
- Guests must wear a bike helmet – provided with the tour.
- Sign liability and damage waivers.
- Complete the Segway rider training.
- Respect road signs, pedestrians, bikes and cars for a safe enjoyable ride.
- It is important to note that the Segway has not been designed, tested, or approved as a medical device.
Are rides cancelled in case of fog, rain or cold weather?
Segways run in fog, light rain or cold weather. Segways are designed to run in any weather except heavy rain and puddles are its worst enemy. Water will ruin the machines. If the weather is bad we will work with you on finding a new ride date and time, don’t worry, we don’t want you to miss this.
What happens if I have to cancel?
Reservations require a full deposit via credit card. We will refund 100% of your deposit. But please be courteous and let us know as soon as possible! Others may be waiting to ride.
All damage to the Segway is the responsibility of the rider. Everything has a cost if damaged, from kickstands to a complete wipeout, it is all itemized. Please keep in mind that each Segway costs over $6,000.

Reservations and Confirmations – Photo ID and a valid credit card will be required at the time of rental.
Prices are per person. All Transactions are in US Dollars. All prices and availability are subject to change without notice. Tour prices or availability are NOT guaranteed until full payment is received and confirmation provided.
Declined Credit Cards:
If the authorization on the credit card provided is declined the reservation will be cancelled and will need to be rebooked depending on availability.
Segway ride cancellations
There are rare occasions that we may have to cancel your ride, such as if a machine is being serviced and is unavailable. This is very rare, but it may happen and we want to make you aware and keep you safe.
